Uku at 8 mos
Uku came to us when I was talking to my cousin and it was mentioned that they were looking to find homes for a litter of kittens that their cat had 8 weeks earlier. Ruthanna and I had talked about the fact that after 3 months, it was clear that Leon was not going to be a playmate for Widget and maybe we should go see these kittens as possibly getting a playmate for Widget…which we did.
Uku (hawaiian for "black jumpy thing" or Flea) got her name as she was always jumping after stuff as a kitten. That "stuff" usually was a toe, foot or hand that was under the covers of our bed but could be a bug or just a piece of fuzz on the floor.
An interesting thing about Uku is that while she likes to be petted, she doesn’t particularly care to be petted by Ruthanna. If Ruthanna reaches down to pet her, she doesn’t run away but she rarely will go to get petted by Ruthanna. I think it’s because Ruthanna is really more of a dog person and Uku realizes this, as she just tolerates the dogs in the family.
Uku is NOT a dog loving cat! If the dogs come anywhere close to her, she will puff up, spit and hiss att hem everytime…even after 6 months of being around the dogs.
