Fargo, our big lovable lug of a dog! After Ursa, we made the decision that we really wanted a second dog but one that was more family oriented (Ursa is a very good dog but likes her solitude..a Pyr trait). After much looking, reading and talking with other “dog” people, we finally decided a Newfoundland was the dog we wanted. Of course that then lead to many weeks of emailing various breeders to see if they met our criteria, as well as had Landseer pups available. As we talked, we would find a breeder we liked but no pups, or had pups but we didn’t feel comfortable. We had just about resigned ourselves to the fact that this was going to take a lot longer than originally thought but then came an unexpected email.
A few days back I had sent an email to a breeder in Michigan but had never heard anything, so I figured they just were not the way to go and didn’t think twice about them. As it turned out they had had some family problems and were just getting back into gear and replying to emails. The breeder, Dyer Lakes/Hidden Akers was just what we were looking for in a breeder! They sent us everything we asked for, almost before we could ask. They emailed us OFA certifications on the parents, pictures of the pups, a copy of the pups lineage. We talked endlessly on the phone with Tara and her mother Cynthia about a Landseer boy they had named Guardian. After all the long discussions, we knew this was the one and before we knew it, we were siting at DFW Airport waiting on a crate to come off a plane from Michigan and on the way to being a two dog family.
